THE GIBSON BROTHERS

Bluegrass Band

Saturday, Sep 25, 2010-7:30 PM

“…the real deal”

--Daniel Durchholz, St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The Gibson Brothers are a twenty-first century link to the bluegrass tradition of fraternal singing duos. Raised on a dairy farm outside Ellenburg Depot in upstate New York, Eric & Leigh Gibson were in sight of the Adirondack Mountains, where their high-lonesome vocal sound was right at home.

Inspired by artists such as the Stanley Brothers and Earl Scruggs, the duo’s bluegrass talent grew into numerous albums, an appearance at the International Bluegrass Music Associations’ annual World of Bluegrass, and the prestigious title of IBMA's Emerging Artist of the Year (1998).

With Eric on guitar and Leigh on banjo, they are joined by fiddle, mandolin and upright bass, bringing to the stage “fancy picking” and “the toughest and tightest harmonies this side of hillbilly heaven.” (The Washington Post)

The Indigo Ensemble

Friday, Oct 22, 2010 – 7:30 PM

The Indigo Ensemble, based near Leipzig, Germany, is a chamber music quartet with a non-traditional instrumentation consisting of violin, guitar, bass & piano. The girth of their repertoire encompasses four continents and three centuries.  The aural possibilities of the group are enhanced by the fact that all the musicians play multiple instruments.  Their repertoire is completely uninhibited and ranges from Bach to Ravel to Duke Ellington to Jimi Hendrix to Astor Piazzolla to Hugo Blanco.

The members of the Indigo Ensemble have been collaborating with one another throughout Germany for many years. Peter and Johannes have been playing together regularly for the past 19 years. Rodrigo appeared on the local scene 8 years ago. In 2008 Rafael was introduced to the group.  What started as sporadic musical encounters evolved into an eager exploration of world chamber music with four committed friends who share one huge common denominator: to make intimate, fun, exciting music without borders, always searching and reaching to connect with each other and the audience.

Trio Con Brio Copenhagen

World-Renowned Piano Trio

Friday, Feb 11, 2011 – 7:30 PM

“...one of the very best in the world”

--Politiken Plus

“...superb, superb, superb”

"...magic fantasy of sound”

--Gramophone

Trio con Brio Copenhagen belongs unquestionably to the upper echelons of young chamber ensembles performing today, commanding an amazing range of timbres and tones.

Founded in Vienna in 1999, this piano trio first grabbed the attention of the music world with a sensational performance that took the highest prize at Germany's prestigious ARD-Munich Competition. Comprised of Korean sisters Soo-Jin Hong (violin) and Soo-Kyung Hong (cello) and Danish pianist Jens Elvekjaer, Trio con Brio Copenhagen received the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award -- one of the most coveted awards in chamber music.

Critically acclaimed performances include Carnegie Hall (New York City), Tivoli Concert Hall (Copenhagen) & the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam). Critics have praised the trio for their “sparkling joie de vivre” and “magic dialogue.”
